Could you please tell us about history of Domotex Turkey in short?
DOMOTEX Turkey is the largest meeting point of carpet and floor coverings sector in the Eurasian region, and is organized in Gaziantep, Turkey's center of machine-made carpet production. Among the supporters of this exhibition, which is held for the fifth time this year, are Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce (GTO), Southeastern Anatolia Carpet Exporters' Association (GAİB) and Gaziantep Chamber of Carpet Manufacturers and Weavers (GHO). Domotex Turkey has great importance in bringing the products of prominent countries such as Turkey and Iran to international market. I think that the positive feedbacks we have received from our exhibitors are the most concrete data that reveals the power and potential of the exhibition.

What is your opinion about the Iranian carpet in comparison of Turkish ones?
When it comes to carpets, the first countries that come to mind are Turkey and Iran. The first examples of the carpets that are the world's most famous handicrafts emerged from these societies. Like Turkish carpets, Persian carpets have a socio-cultural history. This brings the two countries to the fore in terms of handicrafts. When Iran combines its root paints with unique techniques on the textile, very successful works are created. Having a world-famous reputation for its rich colors, extraordinary artistic designs and high-quality designs, Iran is particularly appreciated for its handwoven carpets.

Persian carpets have a great importance for Turkey due to these characteristics. The carpets woven in and around Iran have an important place in the art of Turkish carpets because they are rich in variety and each is an artwork. In the past and today, the patterns, colors and knots used in the Persian carpets have been interacting with the Turkish carpets. Turkish carpet makers now produce carpets unique to Iran and these carpets have an important place in their exports.

How do you asses the Iranians Participation in Domotex Turkey?!
Among participating countries of Domotex Turkey, Iran has the toppest rank. An important part of our foreign visitors also includes Iranians. The interest of Iranian manufacturers is increasing every year. Participations in the exhibition from Iran had a significant increase this year. I think this increase will continue in the upcoming years. Many Iranian professionals who attended the exhibition as visitors during the past years participated as exhibitors with their companies and their products this year. I also had the opportunity to meet face to face with many Iranian manufacturers. They are all very happy about establishing new connections or developing collaborations. Domotex Turkey is an important opportunity for countries such as Iran, which stands out on the international scene in the carpet industry. I can say that Iranian manufacturers appreciate this opportunity very well.

What are the benefits of participation in Domotex Turkey rather than the other ones in Hannover Germany, China and America? Especially for Iranians.
We shall assess this question with different perspectives for each show. Domotex Hannover is the leading carpets and flooring exhibition worldwide with its 30 years of history, attracting visitors from all around the world. Domotex Asia / Chinafloor is the international flooring exhibition targeting visitors of Asia-Pacific region, whereas Domotex USA will be making its debut in February 2019 targeting the US market. Speaking of Domotex Turkey, having a great importance in terms of geopolitics, Turkey acts as a bridge between the east and the west. Also, the first location targeted by the countries aiming for growth in Europe and Asia is Turkey. In addition to this advantage, the exhibition is held in Gaziantep, which is a place at the forefront of the world with its machine-made carpet industry. The city, which is very developed in terms of machine-made carpets sector, also hosts the representative offices of many foreign brands.

In addition to these geographical advantages, Domotex Turkey is an exhibition that is especially prominent in traditional carpet, rug production and handicrafts. Professional visitors of the exhibition are also interested in cultural products and their eyes look for the stands of countries such as Iran and Turkey. When we look at the exhibitor profile of Domotex Turkey, we see that the fair brings together these countries that are at the forefront of carpet industry and the importers of these carpets. This, in turn, offers great opportunities for countries like Iran that are famous for their traditional carpets.

In your opinion, what was the weak points and the positive points of Domotex Turkey 2018? What’s your solutions?
Domotex Turkey brought together the national and international machine-made carpet industry in Gaziantep, the capital of the sector, for the 5th time this year. I have personally participated in all the fairs we have organized up to this day and observed that this year is quite positive in comparison to previous years. From stand designs to product groups, the exhibition became more and more professional, and began to appeal to a wider audience.

With 195 companies from 11 countries, many new collaborations were made to bring the carpet industry to the top of the international scene. This year, the exhibition achieved a new success with 11.951 visitors from 89 countries. The number of foreign visitors increased by 21% this year. This increase allowed the momentum of international cooperation to be accelerated. The fair, where thousands of modern and classical designs of machine-made carpets, hand-woven carpets, textile flooring, mats, fibers and yarns, resilient floor coverings and carpet machinery and accessories, became a very productive meeting point.

Domotex Turkey, the leading carpet and floor covering exhibition of Eurasia, continues to grow every year and also needs a new exhibition area where this size can be maintained. We had to turn down some requests from exhibitors because there was no space available in the exhibition area. 22.000 m² of exhibition area is not enough for Gaziantep anymore. I think a city that is the center of world's machine-made carpet industry needs a bigger exhibition area.

What was the weak/strong points which Iranian’s have on this show? Do have a suggestion for them?
This year, Iran participated in the exhibition not only with a high number of exhibitors, but also with a considerably large number of visitors. We saw that this large participation contributed positively to the exhibition's visitor interests. Iran, a country with a strong international brand  power in the carpet sector, was also sought after in the exhibition. I can say that the Iranian carpets made their presence felt in the exhibition. On the other hand, many exhibitors participated with their country delegations. I also think that it would be beneficial for Iran to participate at the consular level with the country delegation and to develop cooperation between countries.

Exhibitors need to pay attention to a number of criteria in order to spend a more efficient exhibition. First of all, the presentation of the exhibitors' products and services is important in terms of bringing their companies to the foreground. Products exhibited with a better stand decoration can be more attractive. The personnel at the stands should be composed of experienced employees. Visitor records and statistics should be archived well and potential buyers should be contacted right after the fair.
